CUP DRAWS & OPENING FIXTURE

Competitive fixtures
Preparations for the new football season continued at the weekend when the Spartan South Midlands League held its AGM and released the opening day fixtures and its cup draws. Berkhamsted go to 6th placed Hanwell Town on Saturday August 10th for the Premier division’s opening game. Berkhamsted have been paired with Tring Athletic for the seasonal derbies on Saturday 28th December and on Easter Saturday 19th April.

In the Challenge Trophy Berko will travel to division 1 side Sun Postal Sports and if successful, go to Holmer Green (who finished last in the Premier division but were reprieved from relegation). In the Dudley Latham Memorial Premier Division Cup, Berko got a tough draw, away to Oxhey Jets, who finished 3rd last season behind the promoted duo of Dunstable Town and Aylesbury United. Success would bring a home tie with AFC Dunstable. The only other cup draw released sees Berko at home to newly promoted Premier division side, Hoddesdon Town on Saturday 3rd August in the Herts. Charity Shield.

Awards
Berkhamsted picked up two Premier division awards at the AGM for last seasons’ work, winning a football for producing the best programmes and a £200 prize for the best administration. The awards recognise the hard work put in by fixture secretary Keith Hicks, secretary and programme editor Grant Hastie and chairman Steve Davis, who is again selling advertising space for this season’s programmes.
