A reshuffled Berko side knocked the Jets for six on Tuesday night and set up a home Guy Fawkes Night tie with AFC Dunstable in the next round of the Premier Division Cup. With the wedding and holiday season over and recoveries from injuries Mick Vipond was able to recall Carl Tasker, Jack Copson and Steve Hawes to the starting eleven and also  kept Saturday’s three successful substitutes in the team.

Connor Calcutt hit the bar in an early Berko attack. Home keeper Craig McCreeth made some outstanding saves throughout the game to keep the score down. He was finally beaten when Adiel Mannion’s first shot was too hot to hold and his follow up was deflected by promoted reserve captain Jamie Speer into the net. Adam Lawton hit the post with a free kick as Jets tried to get back. However, like the league game last month their hopes were dashed by a flurry of goals before the interval. Mannion doubled the lead with a shot across the keeper into the far corner. A left wing run from Ashley Morrissey ended with a pass to Calcutt who scored the third goal.

McCreery was even busier in the second half denying Mead, Calcutt, Copson and Frederick. Lawton beat a couple of men on the left well inside the penalty area and blasted a shot past Tasker to make it 3-1. An underhit Bekim Culaj back pass produced a brief scare for Berko. However, normal service was resumed when a fine pass by Jordon Frederick released Calcutt who netted his second with a good shot.

Mick Vipond then unlashed Josh Chamberlain, Dale Sears and James Bent from the bench and that led to further goals. It had looked as if Mead was to be denied all night but he made sure by ramming home a Chamberlain shot for the 5th goal. When he tussled with the left back for possession, the referee awarded a penalty. Mead himself took it and neatly tucked away the spot kick to make it 6-1.

Berko: Tasker; Gavin, Copson, Rodrigoe, Culaj, Hawes, Mannion(Bent), Frederick(Sears),Calcutt (Chamberlain),  Mead,Morrissey. Substitutes not used Jowle & Towell.

On Saturday there is an important league game for Berko at mid-table London Colney. They hit seven goals in midweek and will be a hard team to beat. On Tuesday 8th Berko go to division 1 side Sun Postal Sports in the Challenge Trophy.

Berko have a Suburban League match at home to Northwood Reserves on Saturday followed by a league trip to Barton Rovers on Monday 7th. The under 18s are at Kings Langley in the Olympian division on Wednesday 2nd and go to Uxbridge in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday 9th.
