TWO MORE DEFEATS FOR BERKO

BERKHAMSTED 1 HANWELL TOWN 2

In form Hanwell took an early lead at Broadwater on Saturday when Carl Tasker got  a hand to a cross but Nicolai Tararov was on hand to score with a shot. Berko’s equaliser was bizarre with Bekim Culaj taking a pot shot at goal that bounced of the dry pitch high enough to deceive the visiting keeper Charlie Fanner, and it came down in the net.

On the hour mark, Oliver Duffy got sent off for stamping despite protesting his innocence, but by the time he had kicked the tunnel gates on his exit from the pitch, there was no sympathy from the spectators. The visitors got a lucky break when the Berko defence stopped when the assistant referee raised his flag for offside, but when he put it down again, Ricky Pither pounced on the hesitating defender and gave the 10 men the lead.

It was a feisty game with Berko picking up 5 bookings but at least they improved on the 7-1 defeat when the sides last met. Berko have not won in their last 10 league outings.

Tasker; Gavin,  Rodrigoe, Fongho, Branson(Morrissey), Culaj , Cole(Toomey), Frederick,Calcutt, Thompson, Sedgley. Subs not used Seodi, Marshall & Stephenson.

OXHEY JETS 3 BERKHAMSTED 0

Berko had the better of the first half at Oxhey on Thursday night but were made to pay for not taking their chances as Jets roared back in the second half. Berko thought they had got their noses in front when Sam Styles beat out a shot from Josh Chamberlain and Dan Griggs pounced to net, only to find the offside flag had gone up earlier. Carl Tasker was made to produce the best save of the night when he back pedalled and tipped a powerful header over the bar from Jamie Gavin. Berko carved out a few chances and Ashley Fongho looked to take one, only to be crowded out. The final ball too often eluded the Berko attackers.

Some may have thought a two hour cup tie on Tuesday would have made Jets tired for the second half. However, the prolific Lewis Putman must be breaking all records and early in the second half he scored his 64th goal of the season with a fine shot after being played in by Gavin Hart. Within two minutes Jets doubled their lead. Andy Lomas had a swerving shot that looked to be covered by Tasker but somehow it went in the back of the net. That visibly sucked the confidence out of the Comrades and the result was then never in doubt. Mick Vipond tried a few substitutes but it was a home sub Eion Casey who scored next with a well placed shot after being played in by Luke Beardsworth.

Berko do try hard and Styles did well to tip a header from Connor Calcutt away from a Bekim Culaj free kick. Jets gave their man of the match award to a centre back, and they did prevent Berko holding the ball up whenever the visitors did get a head to the balls forward.

Tasker; Gavin,  Rodrigoe, Branson. Fongho, Culaj , Stephenson (Towell), Griggs(Frederick), Pritchard, Calcutt, Chamberlain(Morrissey). Subs not used Sedgley& Thompson.

On Saturday 6th Berko go to Hatfield Town in the Premier division. Berko’s reserves are cramming in three Suburban League games with a trip to Dunstable Town on Thursday 4th, entertaining Bedfont on Saturday 6th and going to Ashford on Wednesday 10th.
