BERKO MOVE INTO TOP 7

BERKHAMSTED 2 HOLMER GREEN 1

Berko moved up to 7th in the league table on Saturday with their third consecutive win by overcoming a battling Holmer Green side. Berko were on top in terms of possession but were a bit goal shy. The visitors are bottom of the table but took a shock lead with a rare first half attack when Tom Alabaster opened the scoring from a corner at the canal end. Soon after Joe Da Silva hit the post for Green and the ball ran along the line and out to safety.

Berko won because they hit two goals in two minutes around the hour mark. Ashley Morrissey had just come on as substitute and his cross from the left wing was nodded home by skipper Dale Sears who netted for the third consecutive match to level the scores. A minute later Alabaster brought down Myles Stephenson to concede a free kick outside the penalty area and got a yellow card. Josh Chamberlain struck the defensive wall hard and when the ball came back to him he blasted an unstoppable shot that took a slight deflection to give Dan Little no chance as Berko got in front.

Sears got booked as did  Adam Davis for bringing down the overlapping Adam Bevan. Connor Calcutt and Stephenson went close but a defender got there to clear at the expense of a corner. Calcutt was tripped for a free kick but he put it inches over the bar. Green were getting frustrated at being behind and Michael Green went in the book.

It was a pleasing win for Berko with Mick Vipond managing to reshuffle the side to cope with Bekim Culaj picking up a ligament injury at Biggleswade in midweek, Jordon Frederick’s unavailability and Dan Griggs’ suspension. Four of the five substitutes were from the under 18 side.

Tasker; Bevan, Rodrigoe, Chamberlain , Branson, Sears, Jowle, Butler(Morrissey),  Calcutt, Thompson(Sedgley). Stephenson(Pritchard).Subs. Not used Seodi & Osborne.

Berko’s reserve team went down 3-2 at Bedfont Sports in the Suburban North on Saturday despite the best efforts of Myron Marshall, who scored twice and nearly equalised in the closing stages.

Berko’s first team have a run of three away games that starts with a trip to Leighton to play Aylesbury United on Wednesday 20th. Jordon Frederick will be available to boost the squad. On Saturday Berko go to Stotfold and follow up with a trip to Potters Bar to play Hadley on Wednesday 27th.

Berko’s reserves side are in Shield action when they entertain Dunstable Town on Wednesday 20th. The under 18s have a Delphian division match at Chesham United on Thursday 21st.
