Berko’s run of defeats continued in the pouring rain at Harefield on Tuesday night. They probably played the better of the two teams but Danny Power getting sent off before half time ruined their chances of taking the points. He committed a series of fouls and the last one earned a yellow card near the half way line. Stupidly he chatted back to the referee and got a second yellow, hampering the team’s chances as the Comrades were reduced to 10 men.

Former Berko Town player Ben Porter went close after a mazy run for United. At the other end Lawrence Bunker and Lewis Pritchard were causing problems but the physical Hares defence somehow held firm aided by lenient refereeing. Charlie Miller made a flying save to keep out a half volley from Pritchard that had goal written all over it.

Bunker did net from a splendid cross by Bekim Culaj but it was chalked off for being offside. Berko had a series of free kicks around the edge of the penalty box but too often struck the defensive wall. Jowle and Pritchard were denied penalty appeals. At the other end Porter went close.

With 20 minutes left two Berko defenders hesitated and Mark Sargeant pounced to fire the only goal of the game. Recent signing from Leverstock Green Stefan Owen-Edwards came on but harsh treatment was dished out by the home defence and finally he limped off with a knee injury to be replaced by teenager Ashley Morrissey.

Tasker;  Power, Rodrigoe, Culaj, Preston, Miller, ,  Jowle, (Frederick) Thompson,  Pritchard (Owen-Edwards ((Morrissey) Bunker, Sedgley Subs. Not used Gavin and Sears.

On Saturday Berko go to Hanwell Town for a Premier division game and must do without the suspended Dale Sears who has clocked up too many bookings and the injured Stefan Owen-Edwards. However, Josh Chamberlain and  Dan Griggs  may return and Myles Stephenson could face his old club. For the first time this season Berko get a rest from midweek action after the Hanwell game

The reserves are away to Leverstock Green on Saturday in the Suburban League.

Berko’s under 18 side face a trip to Hillingdon to play All Stars Academy on Thursday 29th.
