Berko went out of the FA Carslberg Vase on Saturday at Broadwater after a close game. Mick Vipond welcomed back forwards Lawrence Bunker and  Myles Stephenson after injury and the available again Danny Power. However, defender Ross Miller was cup-tied and he had to do without the injured Jamie Gavin and the suspended Josh Chamberlain. The reshuffled side struggled to penetrate a solid Manor defence for most of the game.

Jamie Salmon missed a sitter when Carl Tasker dropped the ball at is feet a few yards out but the keeper made amends by saving his weak shot at the canal end. Bunker blasted well over the bar from inside the 6 yard box at the railway end as Berko finally got going. Manor took the lead in the 31st minute when the assistant referee failed to notice that Mark Sisson was a yard offside in the penalty area as he got on the end of a shovelled forward pass and shot past Tasker. The referee gave his assistant a long look and waited to ensure the flag was staying down before awarding the controversial goal.

Bunker headed across goal and Bekim Culaj went close with a free kick as Berko tried hard for the leveller in the second half. Craig Preston was booked conceding a free kick but fortunately Hamid Zamani put it the wrong side of the post when he beat the defensive wall from the resulting free kick.

Tasker pulled off a save but unfortunately the loose ball arrived at the feet of Brad Williams who doubled the lead with a shot at the back post in the 58th minute. Dan Griggs had a couple of good efforts, one clearing the bar but the other was a low shot that Adam Seal did well to save. A shot on the turn from Bunker in the 85th minute pulled a goal back for the Comrades. That set up a grandstand finish but despite throwing caution to the wind using three substitutes Berko were not able to get the goal they needed to force extra time.

Tasker;  Power(Morrissey) Rodrigoe, Culaj, Preston (Thompson),  Frederick,  Jowle, Griggs, Bunker, Stephenson(Toomey), Sears Subs. Not used Pritchard and Sedgley.

On Saturday Berko go to Hanwell Town for a Premier division game and must do without the suspended Dale Sears who has clocked up too many bookings. For the first time this season Berko get a rest from midweek action after the Hanwell game.

The reserves are also away to Leverstock Green on Saturday.
