Despite missing Danny Power and Jordan Frederick completing single match suspensions and having a few more players unavailable or injured, Berko pulled off a shock by comfortably beating fourth placed AFC Dunstable on Saturday. Lewis Rodrigoe went down sick which allowed Dale Sears to make his comeback after a lengthy spell on the injury list. Wosre was to come as Josh Chamberlain was injured and replaced very early on, but his replacement Lewis Pritchard came off the bench to score a couple of goals.

Pritchard beat his man on the right and unleashed a left foot shot to put Berko in front in just the 14th minute. The home side equalised just before the half time whistle with a goal by Ryan Smith. Recent signing Myles Stephenson finished off a fine move to put the Comrades back in front early in the second half. Pritchard made sure of the points with a shot in the 73rd minute. Berko could have added several more goals as they played some fine football. The only sour note was that they picked up four yellow cards for keeper Carl Tasker, Dale Sears, Ross Miller and Stephenson.

Berko’s reserves went out of the Herts. Intermediate Cup 2-1 at home to Panshanger’s first team. Having conceded two early goals Berko tried hard to get back in the game with a fine solo goal from James Towell and chances for the equaliser went begging and  the visiting keeper  pulled off some fine saves for Panshanger goal.

Berko’s under 18s came from 3-0 down at half time to win 4-3 at AFC Dunstable in the second leg of the Brian Hitchings Cup on Thursday night. Mitchell Cole started the comeback with a header and substitute Tommy Twelves grabbed two more separated by a Goerge MacAusland strike. Already 7-2 up from the first leg Berko went through 11-5 on aggregate and face Colney Heath next.

On Saturday Berko are at home to Colney Heath in a league match ko 3pm at Broadwater. Manager hopes to have his full squad available for that game. Recent signing Hugo Figueiredo could make his debut up front for Berko. He used to play for Northwood, AFC Hayes, Hemel Hempstead Town and Oxhey Jets. However, Chesham United have signed promising striker Connor Calcutt, who is attempting to move up two divisions.

On Tuesday 6th November Berko are at home to Bishops Stortford in the Herts. Intermediate Cup. Stortford are from the Blue Square North three divisions above Berko, so it will be a tough game. They beat the Comrades in the same competition last season. Mick Vipond will have to do without the suspended midfield duo of Jordan Frederick and Dan Griggs who picked up one match bans in the FA Vase draw with Hadley.

Berko’s reserves make the trip down to Hartley Wintney in the Suburban League North on Saturday and are away to Leighton Town in another league game on Wednesday 7th November.
