Berko won through to the semi final of the St Marys Cup on Tuesday night  with a convincing win over Herts. County League leaders Met. Police (Bushey).  Former Northwood and Hanwell  striker Myles Stephenson netted twice in the opening quarter to make sure of Berko’s win. There could have been more goals as Frankie Jowle beat three men and fired a shot against the inside of the far post. The metalwork next took a battering from Josh Chamberlain but the loose ball was cleared, after he struck the post.

Berko were expecting an offside flag that did not arrive so Gavin Chatterpaul  ran on and pulled a goal back before half time. Lawrence Bunker had a goal disallowed for offside then there was a flare up before the interval when Josh Chamberlain and Paul Boateng got sent off.

Early in the second half Jamie Gavin was fortunate to win a penalty when he went down but Charlie May saved Bunker’s weak spot kick. However, soon after, under pressure from Bunker, Gary Nicholson put past his own keeper to send Berko 3-1 up. Mick Vipond used the opportunity to have a look at the fitness of Dale Sears and he sent on Lewis Pritchard and Glenn Thompson too. It was Thompson who extended the lead to 4-1 finishing off a good move with a shot past May at the canal end. Substitute Dean Richards converted a late penalty for the Police to make the final score 4-2.

In the semi fianl Berko will make a short trip to either Leverstock Green or Chipperfield Corinthians.

Berko face two trips to play league games at Creasey Park Dunstable in a few days. On Saturday they travel to face AFC Dunstable and Tuesday 30th are away to the league leaders Dunstable Town. Jordon Frederick and Danny Power miss the first game but will be back for the second after suspensions  for too many bookings.

Berko’s reserve team entertain Pitshanger ‘s 1st team in the Herts. Intermediate Cup at Broadwater on Saturday.
