Berko won through to the 2nd round of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Tuesday night and a tie at home to Southend Manor in due course. After letting in four on Sunday, the defence kept a clean sheet with Craig Preston fit to return and tighten the defence.

Lewis Pritchard broke the deadlock with a goal in the 16th minute. Josh Chamberlain got a yellow card for a crude tackle and there was one card for Hadley’s Tony Sebag in the second half as the match was better controlled than Sunday’s tie.

The bar was rattled by both sides in the first half  at each end with Carl Tasker getting a finger to tip a header on to the bar at the canal end and Connor Calcutt’s pilediver smashed against the upright at the railway end.

In the second half both tems struck the post with Craig Preston being the unlucky one for Berko. Lawrence Bunker was fit to return as a substitute and his eye for goal doubled the lead in the closing stages when he shot the ball under Russell Garland.

Berko; Tasker;Power, Rodrigoe, Culaj, Preston, Frederick, Pritchard(Bunker), Griggs, Calcutt(Jowle), Sedgley, Chamberlain (Thompson). Subs not used Cook and Gavin.

Berko have signed former Northwood striker Myles Stephenson and he could make his debut in the home game with Hatfield Town on Saturday.
