Berko kept their first away clean sheet of the season as they strolled to a very comfortable win at Holmer Green, when they finally converted some of their numerous chances in the second half on Saturday. It was a surprise that the visitors did not manage a goal in the first half as chance after chance went begging. Some fine saves from Callum Akerman ensured a clear sheet for Holmer Green to the interval.

Josh Chamberlain took his tally for the season to 7 goals when he netted very early in the second half after being first to a loose ball bobbling around in the Green penalty area after a Connor Calcutt cross was not cleared. Jamie Gavin, deputising at right back  for Danny Power had to come off with an achilles injury to add to Berko’s defensive problems this season.

Green defended resolutely to keep Berko out until the last few minutes when a couple of late goals made sure Berko moved up the league table. Fellow teenage striker Calcutt netted his 8th of the season to double the lead when he beat the sun-blinded keeper to nod home a wind assisted kick from his own goalkeeper Carl Tasker, as route one football worked where the earlier more cultured football had failed to produce early goals.

Leading scorer Lawrence Bunker sealed the points in injury time with a free kick from outside the penalty area that was already in the net whilst the defenders were still wall building.

Berko’s reserve side drew 1-1 with Tring Athletic at Broadwater on Saturday. They dominated the first half and just before the interval took the lead when Luke Wartnaby-Lamb tucked home a shot after teenager Ashley Morrisey dribbled past several defenders to make the opening. In the second half Martin Skinner equalised for the visitors. Berko should have won it when they hit the bar and with the goal gaping scuffed the rebound side.

The Berko under 18 side lie second in the Delphian division after they knocked six goals in at Tring Athletic. Mitchell Cole led the way with a hat trick and Ashley Morrisey grabbed a brace with Kieron Turner netting a penalty.
