This battle between two of the Premier division’s FA Cup survivors ended even on Tuesday night but Berko will be kicking themselves for not winning it. Carl Tasker returned in goal and Connor Toomey got a first start for the Comrades.

The referee tried talking to players about some robust tackles and fouls but did not use his cards early on but caught up later. Lawrence Bunker varied his penalty taking style to put Berko in front in the 38th minute. Before the interval Dale Sears ánd Josh Chamberlain went in the book as did Dave Tilbury the visitor’s skipper. Early in the second half Tilbury went through Bunker again and got a red card.

Berko failed to make the extra man pay and conceded a soft penalty which Ryan Egan converted to equalise. Mick Vipond got sent from the dug out for his comments on the decision. Berko’s yellow card count rose to five and they threw on Frank Jowle and Lewis Pritchard from the bench in a bid to take all three points. A fine move was finished off with a shot by Bunker to put Berko ahead with 10 minutes left. However, United had the last laugh when substitute Kemo Maphela capitalised with a shot from the edge of the penalty area as the defence repeatedly dribbled their way into trouble instead of hoofing the ball upfield.
