CLEAN SHEET AND WIN MOVES BERKO UP TO 8TH

BERKHAMSTED  1 BIGGLESWADE UNITED 0

Berko bounced back from their defeat to Aylesbury United with  a more comfortable win than the scoreline suggests as Carl Tasker was untroubled in the home goal and Berko rattled the metalwork on three occasions with the ball rebounding to safety.

Lawrence Bunker was first to get a header in but Scott Waters pulled off a good save. Connor Calcutt rose at the back post but headed narrowly wide as the home side made a good start. They dominated the opening half hour and Calcutt was first to strike the cross bar.

In the 35th minute, quick thinking and a rapidly taken free kick from Bekim Culaj won the match when he got up after being fouled and curled the ball into the net inside the far post whilst the keeper was still thinking about lining up a defensive wall.

Jamie Gavin came on for Louis West at half time as his hamstring was again a problem.  Bunker was juggling trying to get the ball into a shooting position after neat work by Danny Power and Lewis Pritchard. Lewis  Rodrigoe went in the book after a flare up on the flat side. Creasy came on for Power and continued overlapping with a string of right wing crosses that troubled the United defence.

Bunker smacked a header against the cross bar and a defender was swinging from the bar to help keep the ball out as Berko continued to attack. Bunker did get the ball in the net from a Creasy cross but it was disallowed for offside in the build up.

Matt Wardle came on for the home side and was involved in some good moves but the ball would not go in. Bunker bundled the ball past the back post from a fine Dan Griggs cross. Calcutt also hit the bar near the end as the referee found a lot of added time.

Micky Vipond was pleased to see his side keep their first clean sheet of the season and push seven places up the league table.
