FIRST LOSS FOR BERKO

BERKHAMSTED 0 AYLESBURY UNITED 3

Berko lost for the first time in their 8 matches this season as a strong second half performance that included a hat trick for Stacey Field earned the points for the Ducks. They did the double over Berko last season on the back of good first half displays. This time the Comrades made progress in that they had more possession in a first half that ended goalless.

Ben Butler returned to Broadwater wearing an Aylesbury United shirt, one of a trio of ex Leverstock Green players that have joined the visiting side this summer. It was something of a Pancake Lane reunion with Berko having five players that joined from Green this season. The curse of centre backs struck again for the Comrades as they have ended up with a different duo at the back in every game, giving Mick Vipond a real headache all season. This time skipper Dale Sears had to cry off to replace a work colleague on the morning of the match. His replacement Craig Preston went to hospital in agony with a dislocated shoulder early in the match and debut making centre half Louis West had to retire with a hamstring injury in the second half.

Joey Acheampong was in the wars for United with Danny Power and Josh Chamberlain being booked for tackles on him in each half. Jack Sillitoe pulled off a fine save and even held onto the ball mid-air from a Jordon Frederick shot after good work by West. He also kept out Connor Calcutt after the ball ran loose from a Bekim Culaj shot. Lawrence Bunker thought he should have had a penalty when he was pushed to the ground after Chamberlain played him in. Meanwhile at the railway end Aylesbury went close with a couple of free kicks that narrowly missed the target when Zac Reynolds looked dangerous.

United opened the scoring when Field went down the middle past the stop gap central defenders and hit a good shot past Carl Tasker. West came off soon after and young substitute Charles Creasy brought down Reynolds for a penalty. Field scoring from the spot to knock the fight out of Berko. Substitute Lewis Pritchard got behind Sillitoe and passed to Calcutt who was crowded out. A header from Calcutt struck the bar for Berko bit bounced clear. No such luck at the other end in the closing stages when Stacey rounded off his hat trick with a back post header that struck the upright but bounced over the line.

Berko; Tasker, Power, Rodrigoe, Preston (Creasy), West (Pritchard), Frederick, Culaj, Griggs, Calcutt, Bunker (Wardle), Chamberlain. Subs not used Gavin and Boad.

Berko’s reserve side won 1-0 with a Chris Chance goal in midweek at Tring Athletic. They had the day off on Saturday but entertain Leighton Town this Saturday.

Berko’s under 18 side made a great start to their Delphian League campaign whipping Chesham United 5-0. There were five different scorers in Yusef Seodi, Jordan Aikman, Mitchell Cole, Connor Toomey and Ashley Morrisey.

On Saturday Berko are on the FA Cup with Budweiser trail with a trip to Uxbridge, who are a division above them. Uxbridge knocked out Terry Venables’ Wembley international stars 5-0 in a replay in the last round. Berko are optimistic that Craig Preston will be fit to return having a n x ray the day before the match. Supporters are welcome on the team coach which leaves the ground at 11:45 am with a £10 return fare. If a replay is needed it will be at Broadwater on Tuesday evening. Otherwise Berko are at home to Harefield United in a league match that night.
