BERKO BEAT HADLEY AGAIN

BERKHAMSTED 4 HADLEY 1

Berko moved 7 places up the league with their second victory over Hadley in a few days. On Saturday it was the FA Cup and on Tuesday night it was in their first home league game of the season. Lawrence Bunker was the hero with a hat trick including two penalties in each half that he won himself and dispatched confidently. He rounded it off with a wonderful fierce  late strike, catching the ball just right to fire home from outside the penalty area past  Russell Garland, who had no time to move.

Hadley can feel hard done by as they created plenty chances in the first half when they were on top but in the end it is goals that win matches. The closest Berko came was a cross from Danny Power who was back after suspension and hit the post with a deep cross. The match sprung to life in the 5 minutes before the interval when Berko struck twice. Bunker grabbed his first penalty and then when a ball was only half cleared to the 18 yard line Lewis Pritchard struck with a sensibly placed low shot.

Even in the second half Nick Chrysanthiou and Alan Murray had good chances for Hadley but put the ball wide with just Carl Tasker to beat. Dale Sears kicked off the goalline from a shot by Dan Quattromini as the visitors kept pressing with their passing game and good movement. As on Saturday little Chas Bayford came off the bench and showed the knack of avoiding his marker to get in headers from set pieces. He pulled  a goal back on 68 minutes. Power and Sears went in the book for fouls as Berko fretted. However, a couple of late goals from Bunker soothed the nerves to leave a flattering 4-1 scoreline.

Berko:Tasker, Power, Rodrigoe, Sears, Gavin, Frederick, Culaj, Griggs, Calcutt (Jowle), Bunker, Pritchard(Chamberlain). Subs not used West, Sedgley and Creasy.

On Saturday Berko are at home to Aylesbury United and on Tuesday at home to Biggleswade United as league games come to Broadwater thick and fast. Manager Mick Vipond has not had a settled centre back pairing so far this season but hopes to have Craig Preston available again to add to his options.
