Berkhamsted advanced to the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup with Budweiser thanks to a comfortable 3-1 win at home to fellow Premier division side Hadley on Saturday. They must wait to find out where they go next, as Uxbridge came from two goals behind to draw 2-2 with Wembley on Sunday and will replay in midweek.

Lawrence Bunker opened the scoring in the 17th minute when he headed in from a Bekim Culaj corner. The ball was already over the line before a defender put it in the roof of the net. Hadley nearly levelled before the interval when a shot was deflected on to the inside of the goalpost and somehow bounced out into play.

Berko made sure of the win in the 49th minute when they doubled their lead. It was pinball at the canal end as Dan Griggs long shot hit the post, Bunker followed up and keeper Russell Garland deflected his shot on to the post again, but the powerful rebound was put away by Griggs who ran in and netted his second goal of the week. Garland saved well with his feet as Bekim broke free. Josh Cahmberlain who has been out with a hamstring injury came off the bench in place of Connor Calcutt who had picked up a knock.

Jake Panayiotu could not find the target when he was unmarked at the back post and shot across the goal at the railway end. Bunker was in unselfish mood for Berko when he rounded the last defender and just had the keeper to beat but he squared it to Chamberlain who passed the ball into the net to make it 3-0. Mick Vipond’s hopes of keeping a first clean sheet of the season were dashed in the last minute when substitute Chas Bayford netted a late consolation for the visitors.

The Broadwater faithful will be hoping the team keep their 100% home record when Hadley come back in the league for an instant rematch on Tuesday 28th August.
