BERKO STILL UNBEATEN AFTER 5 GAMES

LONDON COLNEY 2 BERKHAMSTED 2

Berko are still unbeaten this season after getting another away draw on Tuesday night. Skipper Dale Sears returned after injury and Lawrence Bunker was available to return, so there were a couple of changes from the side that drew at Hertford.

Berko started brightly after a quick shower made for a good passing surface. Bekim Culaj on the left wing was involved in many good moves linking well with Lewis Pritchard and Connor Calcutt to create many chances. There was plenty good football in the match to admire and there could have been a lot more goals with better finishing, although both keepers produced fine saves.

After Culaj and Calcutt went close it was Dan Griggs who scored for Berko to open his account for the season with a shot past Mark Whittamore from the right hand side of the penalty box. However, the home side got back on level terms when a speculative free kick from the left by Dave Kenleyside fizzed off the surface and eluded Carl Tasker. Calcutt and Bekim kept shooting at the other end but the goal would not come. Just before half time Frankie Jowle got it in the net from a pass by Pritchard bit it was chalked off.

Early in the second half Matt Sutton shot after breaking down the middle to put Colney ahead. Whittamore prevented Berko equalising when he tipped a neat Pritchard header over the bar from a Jowle cross in a good all round football move as Berko pressed. Griggs got the only booking of the match after Whittamore momentarily lost the ball but regained it in a juggle and moved it away just as Griggs was about to kick it, so his leg connected with the keeper.

Mick Vipond sent on a couple of substitutes in a bid to get level. The breakthrough eventually came with 10 minutes left when Sears went up for a corner taken by Culaj and having let Sears get in front of him a defender was caught shoving him in the back. The referee pointed to the spot and Bunker duly converted. It keeps the pattern of the season going with Berko winning all their games at home and drawing all the away ones.

Berko: Tasker; Creasy, Rodrigoe, Sears, Femiola (Frederick), Preston, Jowle (Bunker), Griggs, Calcutt, Pritchard, Culaj. Subs. not used. Gavin, Ashby & Sedgley.
