Berkhamsted 3 Harpenden Town 2

Berkhamsted progressed to the quarter final of the Herts. Charity Shield racing in to a three goal lead at the interval. Frankie Jowle crossed and a neat back heel from Lawrence Bunker freed up Connor Calcutt who scored on 20 minutes. A thundering shot from Bunker beat  Matt Lord in the visitors’ goal all ends up, to double the lead 6 minutes later. An offside flag denied another Calcutt goal on the half hour mark. However, he only had to wait a minute to score his second from another Jowle cross.

Harpenden responded to their half time team talk and came out and scored almost instantly with a header from the league’s golden boot winner Jimmy Hill. That rasied their spirits and James Ewington regularly got behind the Berko defence so it was no surprise when he headed a second goal on 67 minutes. New keeper Carl Tasker from Lewvertock Green denied Ewington with a fine save. However, Berko held on fairly comfortably for their win, playing much better football than they had in the midweek draw with Crawley Green.

Berko will be away to Tring Athletic or Hoddesdon Town in the quarter final.

Berko:Tasker, Creasy, Rodrigoe, Frederick, Sears, Farrelly, Culaj (Chamberlain), Griggs, Calcutt, Bunker (Pritchard), Jowle(Thompson).

The youth team also beat Harpenden 3-0 with Ashely Morrissey scoring two and Kai Lewis also netting.
