BERKO’S FA DRAWS ARE OUT NOW

FA Cup with Budweiser

Berkhamsted kick off their season playing Hoddesdon Town away in the FA Cup with Budweiser extra preliminary round. Manager Micky Vipond will be keen for revenge against the side that knocked them out of the FA Vase last season and finished 3rd in the division below Berko. If successful Berkhamsted will be at home in the preliminary round on 25th August against a side from their own division either Hadley or Hertford Town.

Last season, Berko entered the competition for the first time and got through to the first qualifying round. If they can repeat the feat, on 8th September Berko will be away to Uxbridge from the Southern League’s Central division or the winners of the tie between Wembley and Langford. A tie with Wembley would gain Berko national publicity as they are coached by ex Spurs and England boss Terry Venables, who in conjunction with the sponsors of the cup Budweiser have signed up some former international football legends to play for them in the FA Cup. They include ex England and Arsenal trio, goalkeeper David Seaman, centre back Martin Keown, and midfielder Ray Parlour. They have also signed former Chelsea and England full back Graeme LeSaux, former Fulham skipper and US international Colin McBride and Claudio Canniggia who played for Rangers and Argentina.

FA Carlsberg Vase

In the FA Carlsberg Vase 2nd qualifying round on Saturday 15th September Berko face a trip to either Bush Hill Rangers or Cranfield United (who are in the division below Berkhamsted. The 1st round proper is on Saturday 13th October and if still in it, Berko will be away to a fellow Premier division sides Haringey Borough or Hadley or Staines Lammas (from a step below in the Combined Counties division1).

FA Youth Cup

Joe Sweeney’s Berko under 18 side have been drawn away against Burnham Ramblers. The match will be played one evening in the first week of September. Success would bring a home tie a fortnight later against the winners of the Sawbridgeworth Town and Leverstock Green tie. The eventual winners go to Cheshunt or Barking or St Albans City or Romford.
