AFC DUNSTABLE 5 V 0 BERKHAMSTED

Berko crashed to their biggest ever league defeat on Wednesday night to second in the table AFC Dunstable.

The scoreline was slightly flattering to the hosts, as Berko actually played some good passing football for most of the match, but the home team were clinical in their finishing, whilst Berko lacked punch up front to cap of their good approach play.

Matt Wardle shot over from a neat ball by Josh Chamberlain early on. However, Dunstable took the lead in the 12th minute when skipper Jim Baldry made the most of a rash challenge on the right side of the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Gareth Harnaman duly placed his penalty in the corner of the net.

Wardle got to the byline and Chamberlain had the chance to head Berko level but Nick Gardner was able to save the header as it lacked power. Josh Smith had a fine game in midfield as the visitors dominated the next 20 minutes. Gardener saved again from Chamberlain after Simon Carmichael set him up by heading Frankie Jowle’s cross. A defensive mix up let BJ Christie double the lead in the 35th minute as he got between the defender and keeper to slot the ball home.

Graham Buchanan made it 3-0 with a header that looped over the back pedalling Ed Farmer in the Berko goal. The visitors stuck to their task well and battled hard but were surprised when Gardner fluffed a clearance and so failed to take advantage. Moses Olaleye made it 4-0 in the 75th minute when he finished off a fine move. Jonathan Barnett added the icing on the cake when he spotted Farmer off his line and lobbed the final goal from 30 yards out.

Berko: Farmer,  Power, Rodrigoe, J.Carmichael, S. Carmichael, Smith, Wardle(Macpherson), Hawes,  Chamberlain, Sears (Welling), Jowle,(Francis)   Subs not  used:  Usmani, Gavin.

Berko’s reserves went down 2-1 at Tring Athletic the same night. All the goals came from dead balls. Dave Whicker scoring for Tring in each half from the penalty spot with a Jonathan Davies free kick levelling the scores in between during the second half.

A Leverstock Green derby double header this Saturday as The First Team visit Pancake Lane and the Suburban sides meet at Broadwater.
