Hatfield Town v Comrades

Sat 21st Jan 2012

Molten Spartan South Midlands Premier

With Tyler Hatherly suspended, Mick Vipond gave first starts to recent signings Ivailo Dimitrov from Aylesbury United and Kerkstun Macpherson from Broxbourne Borough.

Macpherson had an immediate impact getting his first goal for Berko by putting them in front in just the 5th minute with a long shot from out wide that judged the heavy wind well and curled into the net. Some sloppy defending from the Comrades allowed Lee Newman to equalise on 28 minutes to leave the scores level at the half way mark.

Top scorer Lawrence Bunker put Berko back in front in the 56th minute netting from 6 yards out after Josh Smith cut the ball back into his path. The introduction of substitutes Matt Wardle, back after a long injury lay off and Aaron Usmani saw the visitors playing good football and dominating the second half. Wardle set up Josh Chamberlain who extended the lead to 3-1.

Hatfield did hit the post from a free kick, but then lost their discipline and had a man sent off for kicking and another got a red card as the last defender brought down Bunker, who dispatched the resulting spot kick to make it 4-1.

In injury time Usmani added a fifth goal as Berko made maximum use of their two man advantage and moved up above Aylesbury United in the league table.

Berko: Farmer, Teasdale, Chamberlain, Rose, Skinner, Welling, Smith, Hawes, Bunker, Macpherson, Dimitrov Subs. Used Wardle, Usmani & Davies not used Rodrigoe & Gavin.

The Reserves also had a fine win as they defeated Leighton Town 4-1 at Broadwater. Rowan Taylor 2, Jim Carmichael and Scott McPherson getting the goals. Report on Reserves page.
