Molten Spartan South Midlands Premier

BERKHAMSTED 0 v 0 COLNEY HEATH

The Comrades kept their second consecutive clean sheet on Saturday, but ended up sharing the points as they could not get the winning goal in a game where chances were at a premium.

The defences were on top especially in the first half with new skipper Leon Skinner starring. There might have been a goal, if only the referee had played advantage, when Lawrence Bunker and Aaron Usmani had beaten the defence and were lining up a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Ed Farmer had to be at his best to pull off a fine double save, initially denying a header and then managing to tip a follow up shot over the cross bar. The home side had free kicks in dangerous positions several times but Bunker twice struck the defensive wall.

Mick Vipond made a double substitution at half time introducing Josh Chamberlain at left back for the injured Lewis Rodrigoe and Mark Welling for Jon Davies. Berko kept possession better in the second half but still could not make the breakthrough.

Both managers, Mick Vipond for Berko and ex Hemel Hempstead Town manager Gary Phillips for Heath, made changes to try and get the three points. Kerkstun Macpherson showed a good turn of pace when he came on for Usmani, making his debut after signing from Broxbourne Borough. Tyler Hatherly was making regular inroads into the experienced Colney defence, but the final ball always eluded the forwards.

Meanwhile at the railway end, the experienced Ian Cooper looked dangerous when he and Ricky Perks came on as substitutes for the visitors. But too often they were caught in the offside trap. At the railway end Josh Smith went through several challenges but lost the ball just as he was about to shoot. And so the game finished in stalemate.

The Comrades will have to wait until next Saturday to try again at making progress back up the table when they make their way to LeightonTown to play Aylesbury United the team just above them in the Premier division table. Berko hope to be at full strength.

Berko: Farmer, Teasdale, Rodrigoe (Chamberlain), Rose, Skinner, Smith, Davies (Welling), Hawes,  Bunker, Hatherly, Usmani (Macpherson). Subs not used: Wardle & Dimitrov

The Reserves faced table toppers Chalfont St Peter and put in a spirited performance before going down 4-2. Chris Chance scoring both our goals. Report now on Reserves page.

The Youth Team beat Harpenden Town 5 -2 in a friendly on Friday evening.
