Comrades v Hadley

Sat 26th Nov 2011

The fine unbeaten run of seven games that had seen us surge up the table, came to an end on a windy afternoon at Broadwater in front of a crowd of 217.

Mick Vipond had made a couple of changes to his side, with new signing from Ryman North side Ware, Mark Teasdale, debuting at right back and teenager Josh Chamberlain replacing Jon Davies.

Berko made a promising start in front of a good crowd swelled by youngsters for the half time penalty shoot-out. They took the lead in the 10th minute as an unmarked Steve Hawes nodded Berko in front, from a free kick delivered into the Hadley penalty area.

However, the rest of the match was disappointing for Berkhamsted as the visitors equalised in the 24th minute through Darren Turner. Worse was to come as a long punt upfield by Adam Robinson was met by the speedy Ricky Gibbs, who outpaced the defence and shot past the advancing Ed Farmer, to put Hadley in front.

Berko’s midfield struggled to create chances for the forwards and even with fresh legs in the second half, clear goal scoring opportunities were few and far between, as too many players had an off day.

Other results for the teams behind runaway leaders Royston Town meant that Berko’s defeat sent them sliding down the table from 3rd spot to 6th.

Berko: Farmer, Teasdale, Rodrigoe  J. Carmichael, Rose, Chamberlain (Davies), Wardle (Harewood-Williams), Hawes, Bunker(O’Farrell), Hatherly, Jowle.

Subs not  used: Gavin and Clemo.

The Youth Team went down 0-4 at Hemel Hempstead Town in their league match on Thursday night.

The Reserves travel to Beaconsfield Sycob for their Suburban League match on Monday night and the First Team are in Herts Charity Shield quarter final action on Tuesday evening, when Broxbourne Borough are their opponents.

Thursday sees the Youth Team in league action at Broadwater against Newport Pagnell Town.
