Comrades v Hertford

BERKHAMSTED 5 v 0 HERTFORD TOWN

Berkhamsted continued their rich vein of form with Lawrence Bunker scoring all five goals as Berko took comprehensive revenge for their defeat at Hertford earlier in the season and moved above Tring Athletic and Aylesbury United in to joint fifth place.

Mick Vipond again had to ring the changes with defenders Lewis Rodrigoe and  Simon Carmichael ruled out  through injury and illness. Louis Rose slotted in at centre back and Josh Chamberlain at left back. Fortunately Matt Wardle and Frankie Jowle were fit to return and add to the attacking options.

Bunker was booked before he put the Comrades ahead with a solo goal in the 35th minute, as he drifted through a few defenders before shooting past Alex Elf at the canal end.

He scored again soon after the second half started and on the hour mark Tyler Hatherley played him in and this time it was an exquisite lob over Elf that completed the hat trick. He then hit the cross bar, but nodded in the rebound for his fourth goal.

With the result not in doubt Mick Vipond introduced all three substitutes. And it was one of these, Adam Mead who sent in a long free kick that Bunker headed home, with some power, to round off the scoring with five minutes remaining. There was still time for Hertford to attack in search of a consolation goal but Ed Farmer pulled off a brilliant save in the closing stages, to keep a clean sheet.

Berko: Farmer, Gavin(Mead), Chamberlain (Harewood-Williams), J. Carmichael, Rose, Davies,Wardle, Hawes, Bunker, Hatherly (Hamilton),  Jowle. Subs. not  used: Boad .

On Saturday Berko are at Oxhey Jets and Mick Vipond hopes to have Jordan Toomey and Lewis Rodrigoe to add to his options. But on the long term injured list are Simon Carmichael, Dale Sears and Aaron Usmani.

A win would take the Comrades above Leverstock Green who are in Vase action.
