Hanwell v Comrades

Sat 29th Oct 2011

Mick Vipond had to again ring the changes for Saturday’s league game, as we visited Hanwell Town at Reynolds Field.

Already without the suspended Jim Carmichael, he found both Aaron Usmani and Josh Chamberlain were ruled out with injuries sustained in the 4-1 midweek cup defeat at Oxhey Jets and Tony Burnett withdrew after a death in the family.

Worse was to follow, as by half time he had already been forced into two substitutions. Simon Carmichael, just back from injury, pulled up and had to be replaced, as did Mark Welling. No surprise therefore that Berko struggled to get going in the first half. Some good news was Jon Davies, a member of the Division 2 title-winning side has returned to the fold from Leverstock Green and made his debut in midfield.

Berko did much better in the second half , creating a host of chances which were mainly foiled by the superb goalkeeping of  Kieran Jimmy. Tyler Hatherly put Berko in front with quarter of an hour remaining, but hopes of an away win were dashed within 5 minutes as Dean Worman equalised for the home team. The referee managed to book seven players in a match that had hardly a bad tackle with Mead, Hatherly, Rose and substitute Clark the villans for Berko.

It was Berko’s first away draw of the season and Hanwell’s first draw this season. The Comrades are still  handily placed in 9th position in the League, with games in hand over most of the teams above them.

Berko: Farmer, Mead, Rodrigoe,  Hawes, S. Carmichael(Gerber), Welling, (Wardle ) Jowle , Davies(Clark), Bunker, Rose Hatherly. Subs. not  used: Gavin, Boad.

After tonight’s St Marys Cup game at Hemel Hempstead Town, Berko will revert to league action when they entertain Broxbourne Borough on Saturday k.o.3pm at Broadwater. On Tuesday 8th they are again at home, trying to book a place in the quarter-final of the Challenge Trophy when they play Haringey Borough. Looking to make it a hat trick of wins over Borough already this season.
