Oxhey Jets v Comrades Premier Div Cup

Tues 25th Oct 2011

Premier Division Cup 1st Round

Oxhey deservedly won this cup tie on Tuesday night with a good passing game against a rearranged Berko side.

The squad were without the Carmichael brothers, the suspended Tyler Hatherly and injured Lawrence Bunker.

Spencer Bellotti opened the scoring with a shot in just the 8th minute when neat passing carved open the visitors’ defence. Lee Armitt looked like increasing the lead but his shot on the turn went past the outside of the post.

Armitt was proving dangerous and Ed Farmer had to save two good shots from him and he also got the ball in the net, but it was long after the whistle went for offside. Two more goals either side of half time won the tie for Jets. Before the interval Lewis Putman fired a shot past Farmer and an Armitt header early in the second half made it 3-0.

Berko soon pulled a goal back through a Matt Wardle header and the instroduction of Mark Welling improved their passing and the Comrades had a fine spell. However, hopes of  a comeback were squashed when a right foot ball from Lee Grace was met by Bellotti’s head to restore Jets’ three goal advantage. Farmer made a fine double save to keep the score respectable. Berko’s best effort was from Frank Jowle with a lob that almost dipped in, and he looks like he will be a good signing.
