Dunstable Town v Comrades

Tues 11th Oct 2011

Three goals in the first half hour settled this match in favour of Dunstable- who are still unbeaten in the league this season. They are also still in the FA Cup and so have the games in hand to overhaul Royston Town, who took over from Leverstock Green at the top of the table with a 6-0 win at Hatfield Town last night.

Berko were pleased to welcome back Lawrence Bunker after a 7 week suspension and as Tony Burnett was also fit, Berko looked more threatening up front. Dunstable had four men booked as they tried some unfair means to keep them in check.

However, excellent movement from the home side and some defensive slips meant the game was over in the first half. Nathan Frater cut in from the right wing blasted a fine shot past Ed Farmer to open the scoring in just the 5th minute.

By the 11 minute Berko were two down as Pete Holmes beat Mark Welling and went on to lob a shot over Farmer. At the other end Matt Wardle headed a good chance just the wrong side of the post from a cross by Adam Balletta.

A weak back pass put Farmer in trouble and he lost his tackle on the half hour mark with Frater, who pounced to get his second goal of the game and finish the contest. Berko did have more of the play in the second half and their closest to a goal was when a Tyler Hatherly shot rebounded off the post to safety.

There were a few free kicks in dangerous positions but the home defence held firm. Joseph Bruce got a fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining to send Dunstable off on their FA Cup exploits in good heart.

It has been a depressing run for Berko with just one win in their last 8 matches as injuries and suspensions have taken their toll.

Berko: Farmer, Clark, Balletta, J.Carmichael,  S. Carmichael, Welling, Wardle, Hawes, Bunker(O’Farrell) , Burnett, Hatherly . Subs not used  Gavin, Usmani and Boad.
