Saints March On in FA Cup

BERKHAMSTED 0 ST ALBANS CITY 3

Berko lost their FA Cup with Budweiser Replay in the rain at Broadwater on Tuesday night, going out in their fourth game in the competition in a tie that drew the new club’s highest home attendance to date.

Their undoing was the aerial power of the Saints at dead ball situations which led to all three goals for the team from a couple of divisions above Berko. Rob Haworth’s header opening the scoring in the 21st minute.

Two more goals either side of the half way mark from Ryan Moran and Jerome Walker earned Saints a trip to East Thurrock United in the next round.

Berko came closest when Tony Burnett found room on the left of the penalty area and his shot beat Nick Jupp but rebounded off the crossbar to deny the home side a consolation goal. Striker Aaron Usmani came off with a bad knee injury to add to Berko’s woes as they will be without midfielder Dale Sears for three months after he broke his ankle in the last Vase match.

On Saturday Berko go to Hoddesdon Town in the Carlsberg FA Vase which should see a recall for midfielder Tyler Hatherly who was cup-tied for the St Albans game, and Steve Hawes has ended his suspension, but has an injury battle to overcome.
