Berko Complete Friendly Programme with Win

BERKHAMSTED 4 HODDESDON TOWN 1

Berko finished off their pre-season friendly programme with a comfortable win over Hoddesdon Town on Tuesday night. Matt Wardle was on top form and he created the first goal dribbling into the penalty box and setting up Steve Hawes, who shot home. Next time he dribbled in the box, Wardle doubled the lead with a low shot past Lee Bullock.

Jeremy Lynch pulled a goal back early in the second half for the visitors. However, minutes later Aaron Usmani restored the two goal Berko advantage when he robbed a defender and ran on to score. A diagonal run from Wardle ended with an unselfish pass to Lawrence Bunker who made it 4-1 to complete another good performance from the Comrades.

Berko start their league season at home on Saturday to London Tigers in their first ever Premier division game after promotion. They are hoping for a good crowd at Broadwater and this season are offering half price admission to league games for adult season ticket holders of professional clubs. Hopefully there will be some pro club supporters locally who will adopt the Comrades as their second team. Mick Vipond expects to be at full strength apart from Lewis Rodrigoe and Tony Burnett who are unavailable. On Tuesday night Berko go to Tring Athletic for a local derby in the league.

In the Herts Charity Shield, the Comrades will host Broxbourne Borough V&E in the Quarter-Finals, no date has been set for the tie as yet.
