Comrades Update

So football returns to Broadwater.

1505 – Adam Mead opens the scoring after Armstrong neatly dummies a Josh Chamberlain cross. 1-0

1508 – The linesman’s flag rules out a close-range finish from Armstrong.

1510 – First chance for Rovers, but the clipped effort clears the bar.

1519 – James Armstrong has been taking up some great positions, but his final touch has just let him down.

1522 – Great feet from Tony Burnett s ends with a great cross, which Chamberlain can only glance at goal.

1523 – Another chance for Jimmy, after getting behind the keeper, but a Rovers defender makes an exceptional block.

1529 – An Armstrong corner right across the six-yard box is well defended. Sandridge are certainly a well drilled side.

1533 – Berko keep knocking on the door, Antony Beamish ploughing towards goal but just failing to connect.

1537 – There it is, via a magnificent finish from Tony Burnett. 2-0

1540 – Jimmy had a goal coming, and it comes after Adam Mead slides the ball through, and he clips home. 3-0

1542 – It’s 4-0 now as Tony Burnett beats two defenders before sliding home. 4-0

1545 – A bizarre cock-up by the officials denies Berko a goal. The ref decides to abandon play, and the ball ends bouncing in off Burnett. Decision? No goal for handball.

Half-time: 4-0

1607 – Great control from Chamberlain almost sees the youngster in on goal.

1610 – Tony Burnett adds his third and fourth goals with two clinical finishes. 6-0

1614 – A change for Berko as Chris Mason replaces Antony Beamish.

1618 – Burnett is in mercurial form, his trickery leaving three Sandridge defenders static, allowing him to get a clever shot in which slipped just wide.

1626 – A tidy effort from Chris Mason beats the post.

1628 – Sandridge see a free-kick take a wicked deflection, but Eddie Farmer gets down to his left hand post superbly to push the ball to safety.

1629 – Steve Boad replaces Adam Mead for the Comrades.

1632 – After some lovely passing football, Jimmy Armstrong rifles home the Comrades seventh. 7-0

1638 – Tony Burnett continues his one-man mission with another accomplished finish. 8-0

1645 – It’s all over here with an 8-0 win under their belt, and Tony Burnett has equalled Lawrence Bunker’s record of five goals in a game.
