Comrades Update

Having feared the worst with all the rain in the last 24 hours, Saturday has turned out dry but chilly as the Comrades make the short journey to Kings Langley for a top versus second clash.

The home side are managed by former Berko Town favourite Paul Hobbs, and with a good crowd expected as well, it should be an exciting affair.

Comrades: 1. Eddie Farmer 2. Jamie Gavin 3. Lewis Rodrigoe 4. Jim Carmichael 5. Si Carmichael 6. Mark Welling 7. Marty Wardle 8. Aaron Usmani 9. James Armstrong 10. Tony Burnett 11. Adam Mead
Subs: 12. Chris Gregory 14. Colin Wilson 15. Steve Boad 16. Graeme Milner 17. Anthony Beamish

Kings Langley: 1. Simon Ryder 2. Phil Morgan 3. Joe Godwin 4. Nathan Pooley 5. Lee Waryszniuk 6. Jordan Toomey 7. Jack Johnson 8. Adie Corcoran 9. Lewis Toomey 10. Ian Felgate 11. Milan Stepjak
Subs: 12. Jonny Watson

Referee: Carl Henry

1515: After one false start, it’s been an even opening fifteen, Nathan going in the book for a foul on Jamie Gavin.

1516: Chance for Milan Stepjak, but he draws his shot across goal.

1519: A clever corner sees Si Carmichael flick the low cross in, but the home defence block.

1525: Berko have struggled to get the ball into dangerous positions, and the home side have made the breakthrough as Lewis Toomey lobs a stranded Eddie Farmer. 0-1

1533: Matty Wardle is cautioned for dissent. It’s time for cool heads out there.

1537: Eddie Farmer collects superbly from a deep free-kick.

1539: Better from Berko as Aaron Usmani.

1540: Disaster strikes as Lewis Toomey again burst through before finishing well to double the lead. 0-2

1548: And it gets worse for Berko as Langley bag a third right on time. 0-3

Half-time: 0-3

1604: It’s time for Berko to dig deep.

1614: This is a much better start from the Comrades, the final ball or that little bit of luck eluding them.

1618: It’s that man Toomey asking questions again as Farmer saves smartly. Colin Wilson replaces Adam Mead.

1619: It’s 4-0 now as Ian Felgate scores with a wonder strike from thirty yards. 0-4

1622: Si Carmichael receives treatment and the ref speaks to Jamie Gavin, but no card.

1625: Farmer pulls off a great fingertip save. It’s do or die now for the Comrades.

1628: Berko have a corner, but Kings clear. Chris Gregory and Anthony Beamish replace Mark Welling and Aaron Usmani.

1631: Berko have looked flat-footed at the back all afternoon and have now conceded a soft fifth from a corner. 0-5

1636: Inside the last fifteen, and the Comrades need to keep going to the end.

1638: Kings Langley are high on confidence and shooting from everywhere, and have made a double substitution.

1641: Armstrong is fouled on the edge of the box, and he drives his effort narrowly over.

1644: The home side clear a goalmouth scramble, but we just want the final whistle now.

1650: The home keeper has had a couple of saves to make.

Full-time: 0-5

So Berko’s 42 game unbeaten run in the league comes to an end, but heads up boys, it had to end some time.

Let’s get the show back on the road at Broxbourne next week!

That’s only the second blank suffered since the new club was born, well done Kings Langley.
