Comrades Update

We’ve had light showers here at Broadwater in the last hour, which might make it a little slippy.

Teams to follow.

Comrades : Farmer, Groves, Wilson, J Carmichael, Hawes, Welling, Wardle, Mead, Armstrong, Usmani, Burnett

1502 : Berko get off to a flying start as Tony Burnett finishes from close-range. 1-0

1504: A diving header from Aaron Usmani doubles the Comrades’ lead. 2-0

1507 : Chris Gregory continues the flood of goals as he fires into the corner for Harpenden. 2-1

1508 : Great work from Jim Carmichael thwarts the visitors.

1518 : Gregory is in again but Ed Farmer spreads himself well to deflect the ball wide.

1528 : A needless lunge on James Armstrong sees Berko awarded a penalty.

1529 : The chance is list for Berko as Burnett sees his spot-kick well saved, with the Harps’ keeper tipping Mark Welling’s follow-up over superbly.

1535 : Another half-chance for Berko as Burnett holds up well for Groves to play the ball in towards Usmani at the far post – but it’s just a little too powerful.

1545 : It’s half-time with the Comrades narrowly ahead 2-1. It’s been an end-to-end opening 45 minutes, with Berko escaping a last minutes goalmouth scramble to stay ahead.

Half-time : 2-1

Harpenden are out early, followed by Berko and both teams appear unchanged.

1607 : James Armstrong bags the Comrades’ third goal, nipping between the centre-backs and keeperbefore slipping the ball home. 3-1

1611 : Burnett hits the far post with a fine curling effort.

1615 : The Harpenden defence looks shaken, Adam Mead going close after curling a loose ball an inch over the bar.

1618 : The Harps make their second substitution, Tony Golder entering the fray.

1625 : First caution of the afternoon as Aaron Usmani goes in the book for a mistimed tackle.

1629 : New signing James Watts replaces Mead with a quarter of an hour to go.

1632 : Two of Berko’s close season signing combine well, a Mark Welling free-kick finding Matty Wardle whose header rattles the bar.

1633 : A reminder that the Harps aren’t a spent force as Ed Farmer makes a great block at the far post.

1639 : Toby Ashcroft comes on for Harpenden’s final change.

1642 : The injured Lee Groves is replaced by Tom Allnutt, who joins Sukure Ebi for Berko, who came on for Mark Welling.

1650 : Three points for Berkhamsted as the final whistle goes. Credit too for Harpenden Town who showed they are a very capable unit, and referee Mr Hey, who controlled the game admirably throughout.

1715 : Berko Reserves make a great start to their Suburban League campaign with a 1-0 win at Cove, youngster Harry Darby scoring the winner. Well done Danny and the boys!
