Seven days to go….

Competitive football is back and Berkhamsted make their debut in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One at home on Saturday 7th against fellow promoted team Wodson Park k.o.3pm at Broadwater. The sides met three times last season with Berko doing the league double but losing a cup match to the team from Ware.

On Saturday afternoon Berkhamsted beat two Herts. County League Premier division sides 2-0 at home to Baldock Town/Letchworth and 3-2 at Sarratt. At Broadwater the Baldock Town/Letchworth goalkeeper had to be at his best to keep the score down. He tipped an Adam Mead shot for a corner after the youngster had dribbled through half the visiting side. Tony Burnett was next to be denied when his shot was flicked over the cross bar. He also saved well from Aaron Usmani. Burnett hit the crossbar so the game was goalless at half time.

Five minutes into the second half the keeper was finally beaten when Adam Mead’s low shot across goal bent just inside the far post to open the scoring. Burnett added a second with a shot from near teh penalty spot after Carmichael played the ball side ways into his path. More good saves followed inclunding getting a hand to put a Burnett shot round the post. At the other end Ed Famer held a low shot but generally the Comprades were on top with their best pre-season performance. Earlier in the week they suffered two home 1-0 defeats to late goals by Aston Clinton and to Premier division Hadley.

Darryl Caseman netted two goals and centre back Stuart Bailey also scored as Berko raced in to a 3-0 lead after half an hour of their game at Sarratt. However, they had to work hard to hold on as the home-side rallied to net a couple of second half goals.

On Saturday Berkhamsted’s reserves play away to Hadley reserves in a pre-season friendly.
