Comrades round off title-winning season with two-figure victory

Berkhamsted 10-1 Caddington

A lively crowd of well over a hundred witnessed the Comrades again reach double figures at Broadwater this afternoon, with visitors Caddington on he receiving of a ten goal drubbing that included two hat-tricks.

Lawrence Bunker excelled up front for Berkhamsted, scoring a total of five across the course of the game, and substitute Steve Boad took just 23 minutes to score three. Berkhamsted’s top scorer for the season, James Armstrong netted two.

Caddington had originally cancelled out Bunker’s seventh minute opener, and their keeper also saved an Armstrong penalty at the beginning of the first half.

However Berkhamsted, playing the last game in their debut and championship winning season, were in no mood to allow the game to be competitive, and goals from Bunker on 24, 59, 44 and 70, Boad on 67, 81 and 90 and Armstrong on 32 and 68 sealed a perfect end to the Comrades’ remarkable year.

After the game league officials presented Berkhamsted with the Division Two trophy to great applause from the Broadwater faithful. Manager Micky Vipond expressed his gratitude to the fans, who have played an integral part in his side’s achievements.

On Friday the club will host its award night, with hog roast, live entertainment and disco. Supporters are very welcome. For more information, telephone Joe on 0782 55 11 927.
